We have an average of 60,000 thoughts per day. With that many thoughts, it’s easy to feel smart and intelligent. The shocking truth is that 57,000 of these thoughts are habitual, so whatever you have programmed yourself to think over the years, is exactly what you think about, for the majority of the day.
So how are our thoughts programmed?
It’s a combination of many factors, and the most common causes of our habitual thinking patterns are created in our childhood, our environment (where we grew up & spent most of our time) and from the people that we spend most time with now, as adults.
It’s important to become aware of our thinking patterns & programs, and how these thoughts affect our daily lives. Our Thoughts create our Emotions, and from our Emotions (the way we FEEL) come our Behaviors. When we think & feel bad, our behavior responds accordingly, and we are unable to achieve the results that we are hoping to achieve. When we think & feel good, we have great behavior, take great action, and achieve great results. It’s almost like nothing can stop us!!
Ask yourself “Am I having more positive thoughts or more negative thoughts?” If you answered ‘negative thoughts’, there is good news. You can actually learn to re-program your brain, to create new habitual ways of thinking, so that Positive Thinking becomes your default operating system. Here is a quick list of 5 Tips to Develop Positive Thinking.
Self-Acceptance – No one is perfect, and to aim for perfection is insanity. Who are we really comparing ourselves to anyway? Some misguided illusion of what society deems is perfect? It’s enough to drive us crazy, and fill our heads with negativity. Instead, practice Self-Acceptance. You & I are both perfect in our imperfection. YOU are a Limited Edition, and no one on the planet has your unique abilities. So allow this illusion of perfection to fade from your mind, and accept your awesomeness, moment to moment, just as you are.
Change Your Focus – Negativity fuels negativity. If you always focus on the bad, all you will see is bad, in everything & everyone. So start to focus on the Positive. Can you remember a time when you bought something nice for yourself, and you were really happy. Maybe a new car. Did you notice how suddenly, almost magically, you saw that same type of car, with the same color EVERYWHERE?? It wasn’t magic, you just changed your focus, and you began to see more of what you focus on. The same goes with creating positive thoughts. Focus on the good things, and you’ll see more good things
Gratitude Journal – One of the quickest ways to change your focus is by writing a Gratitude journal. It’s real easy…when you wake up in the morning, simply write a list of 10 things you are grateful for…Your health, a roof over your head, a paying job, food in the fridge. Write the big things and the small things. Then, in the evening, write a list of 10 things that you are grateful for, that happened during the day…someone held the door open for you, a random person smiled at you, someone brought you a coffee, your mother-in-law said some kind words, you got a run of green lights driving on your way home…big or small, write them down. In a matter of days, you will begin to see more things to be grateful for, and more things to appreciate.
Remove Negativity – Do you surround yourself with negative influences? These negative influences can come in many forms, and it is essential for you to minimize these influences in your life, if you want any chance to create positive thinking. Here are some examples of the negativity that you can remove…People…YES, all those nay-sayers, who put you down, who constantly complain, gossip and judge. You don’t need them in your life, and they are holding you back. Another big one is Media…whether it’s excessive social media, mainstream media, gossip magazines…it’s all designed to make you think less of yourself. Remove it all, and watch your positivity grow !!
